Hello Traders!
I hope your week has been better than mine.
After a fantastic holiday away in the Spanish mountains I managed to pick up a cold and have spent the last week trying to overcome it.
Today is the best I’ve felt since Sunday so perfect timing for the blog release!
Backtesting Progression
My main goal is that every day I want to achieve 5 backtested days but with this cold I have not achieved that.
However, I did have spurts of energy to get work done so throughout the week I completed:
Monday – 2 days tested
Tuesday – 2 days tested
Wednesday – 1 day tested
Thursday – No days tested
Friday – 1 day tested
So despite how I was feeling, I still managed to get just over a week’s worth of data.
On an important note, I will be going over this data I tested just to make sure that everything is to my system and that I didn’t miss any trades.
I say this because for these 6 days, I have a total of 5 trades – all winners, and that makes me suspicious.
It’s good to take precautions, especially considering my mind is not as sharp when I am ill.
(If I notice any missed trades I will let you know in next weeks blog)
Results measured in R (R = % gained).
The current stats are:
- 70 total trades
- 42.86% strike rate
- 59% return
I am now only 30 trades away from my 1st goal of getting 100 trades, then I can have a decent view of how my strategy could perform.
Mindset
Being ill sucks, but the fact I was able to get some data was great and I am proud of myself for it.
Each day I assessed how well I felt to mark-up my charts and get the bare minimum done in the pursuit of data collection.
How did I know I was feeling well enough?
I mainly based it on energy levels once I got sat at my desk.
If it was starting to get my charts up and I started to feel drowsy and bunged-up, then I would just shut my computer down (this is what happened on Thursday).
But for the other days I just had the energy within me to push and do at least 1 day of testing.
I didn’t pressure myself, I just did it based on how I felt. Sometimes you need to remove the objective discipline and let your body recover.
Key Takeaway for the Week
If you have a cold, don’t trade live and don’t force yourself to get data either. The bare minimum, becomes your new absolute max.
Nothing will beat genuine rest and hydration, there’s no point trying to force yourself to trade to get money in or to test because in both of those situations, something not very nice will come of it. Combine that with your cold and you’ll feel extra shitty.
Rest and be patient, you are still on the right path.
